Alors qu'il est à la recherche de son fils Aniel, Thorgal va croiser la route de curieux marchands pour lesquels il acceptera de remplir une mission très particulière à bord du Bateau-Sabre. Cet album replace Thorgal au centre de l'action, dans des conditions climatiques extrêmes, tandis que Jolan et ses compagnons arrivent au bout du parcours orchestré par Manthor.
